St. Peter's beats Tennessee State 66-58

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) Elias Desport scored six points in the final 3 minutes to put St. Peter's in control for a 66-58 victory over Tennessee State in the Barclays Classic on Friday night.

St. Peter's (2-4) took a 61-56 lead after Desport made jumper and a pair of free throws on consecutive possessions.

Christian Mekowulu cut the Tennessee State (2-4) deficit to four with a free throw before Desport scored again to put the Peacocks up 63-57 with 1:01 left. Mekowulu made one more free throw and the Tigers were done scoring.

Desport finished with eight of his 10 points in the second half. Marvin Dominique and Travis Hester led St. Peter's with 15 each.

Mekowulu had 13 points for Tennessee State, which came within one point of erasing an 18-point first half deficit. Xavier Richards and Jay Harris had 11 apiece, and Rodney Simeon added 10.
