St. John's coach Steve Lavin was not at Saturday's game against Northeastern, the second straight game and third this season he's missed as he recovers from prostate cancer surgery.

Lavin, who had surgery Oct. 6, missed the Red Storm's season opener, then was on the bench for four games before missing last week's win over St. Francis, N.Y.

The school said the second-year coach is continuing a modified schedule. Lavin participated in team practices this week, in addition to the team's Thanksgiving dinner and a visit to the St. John's Bread and Life Soup Kitchen on Wednesday.

Lavin said in a statement that he has to be mindful of his stamina. Assistant coach Mike Dunlap again took over as coach of the Red Storm (4-2).
