Southern Utah edges past Sacramento State 69-65

CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) Juwan Major hit the go-ahead basket with 1:31 left and Southern Utah edged past Sacramento State 69-65 on Thursday night.

Nick Hornsby made a layup to give Sacramento State a 65-64 lead with 2:39 remaining. Southern Utah turned the ball over the next possession, Sacramento State missed a 3-pointer attempt, and Tyler Rawson got the defensive rebound to set up Major's jumper that gave the Thunderbirds a 66-65 advantage. The Hornets (19-9, 13-4 Big Sky) didn't score again after Hornsby's layup and Southern Utah got three more points for the final margin.

James McGee led the Thunderbirds (10-18, 7-10) with 14 points and Major finished with 13 in a contest that saw 11 lead changes and three ties.

Mikh McKinney scored 19 points to lead the Hornets, who are in a three-way tie with Eastern Washington and Montana for first place in the Big Sky standings.
