Southern U. 55, Alabama St. 53

Derick Beltran scored 22 points and Southern University rallied to beat Alabama State 55-53 on Monday night.
The Jaguars (15-13, 11-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference) trailed 44-38 with 6:37 remaining before going on a 14-2 run. They scored six straight to cap the run, going up 52-46 on Quinton Doggett's free throw with 21 seconds left.
During the Hornets' 1:21 scoring drought, they missed all six of their field goals.
Southern shot 45.5 percent from the field in the second half (10 of 22), while Alabama State shot just 9 of 27 in the final 20 minutes.
Doggett finished with 18 points and three blocks for the Jaguars.
Tramaine Butler was the only player in double figures for Alabama State (10-16, 7-7) with 18 points. Butler was 4 of 8 from 3-point range, as the Hornets shot just 28.6 percent from behind the arc (6 of 21).
