The Moccasins hit only 18.4 percent (7 of 38) of their shots in the first half and 25.7 percent (18 of 70) overall.

''Our defense was better than it's been the previous two games by far,'' South Florida coach Stan Heath said. ''They missed some shots that I know they can make, but . we had a size advantage.''

That wasn't lost on Capers, a 6-foot-1 freshman.

''I don't think most of us have played against such tall players, so that kind of affected our shots a little bit,'' he said. ''If we worked hard in practice I think it would have been a better game.''

Florida Southern struggled from long range throughout the game, missing all but one of 13 attempts in the first half and all seven tries after the break.

''That was really different for us,'' Bailey said. ''Especially in practice, we've got guys draining them left and right.''
