Former USC assistant Gib Arnold, who was not retained by head coach
Kevin O’Neill, has been tabbed as Hawaii’s head coach.
According to a source close to the situation, Arnold —
who graduated from Punahou School in Hawaii and is the son of
former Hawaii coach Frank Arnold – was hired on Saturday.
Saint Mary’s assistant Kyle Smith was also in the mix
for the opening to replace Bob Nash — who was 34-56 in three
years after replacing Riley Wallace.
Arnold, 40, has been an assistant at USC, Pepperdine, Loyola
Marymount and Vanderbilt. He was also the head coach at the College
of Southern Idaho — a junior college.
