Jeremy Hazell added 17 of his 19 points in the second half as the Pirates (17-11, 8-9 Big East) beat the Scarlet Knights (15-15, 5-12) for the fourth straight time and fifth in six games.
Jeff Robinson, who was involved in a tense moment with Rutgers center Hamady Ndiaye midway through the second half after an intentional foul, had 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Mike Rosario had 16 of his 17 points in the second half to lead Rutgers. Jonathan Mitchell added 13 points and Ndiaye had 12 and five blocks.
There seemed to be a little controversy after the game when Seton Hall coach Bobby Gonzalez exchanged words with Rutgers assistant coach Jim Carr during the team handshakes.
