SE Louisiana 63, Louisiana-Monroe 60

Brandon Fortenberry scored 23 points and Roosevelt Johnson 20 as Southeastern Louisiana hung on to defeat Louisiana-Monroe 63-60 in a nonconference game Saturday night.

The Lions (2-1) led by as many as 14 points late in the first half and again, 47-33, with 12:34 remaining in the game.

The Warhawks (0-4) then went on a 14-3 run, which included five points apiece by Charles Winborne and Marcelis Hansberry, to close to within 50-47 with 6:54 left.

Louisiana-Monroe trailed 61-56 with a minute left but got within one, 61-60 on two free throws by Hansberry and a layup by Bibi Ndongo with 23 seconds left after a steal by Hansberry.

Daron Populist made two free throws with 5 seconds to give the Lions their final margin. He finished with 13 points.

Fred Brown, whose attempt at a tying shot missed at the buzzer, led Louisiana-Monroe with 16 points. Winborne had 15.
