Savannah State defeats South Carolina State 75-65

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) Deven Williams scored 11 of his 16 points in a big first half as Savannah State notched a 75-65 victory over South Carolina State on Saturday night.
The Tigers (10-17, 8-5 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) took a 47-30 halftime lead, shooting 61.3 percent from the floor while hitting 5 of 8 3-point attempts. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs (9-17, 5-8) only made 1 of 9 3-point tries in the half.
SSU continued to lead comfortably in the second half, ahead as many as 24 points. The Bulldogs chipped away at the deficit and a 3-pointer by Jordan Smith got them within eight points, 73-65, in the final minute, but two free throws by SSU's Keierre Richards ended the scoring.
Richards scored 11 points with Khiry White and Alante Fenner adding 10 each.
Matthew Hezekiah had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Daryl Palmer 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
