Drew Windler scored 18 points and Samford held on to beat Furman 55-49 in a Southern Conference game on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (11-16, 8-8) trailed 49-48 with 1:36 remaining. Jeffrey Merritt then hit a 3-pointer and Furman's Bobby Austin turned it over, leading to a free throw by Mike Connor with 37 seconds left to seal the victory.

After two missed 3-pointers by the Paladins, Windler made 3 of 4 free throws in the final 12 seconds.

Samford led 24-21 at halftime, and opened the second half on a 13-4 run to go up by 12 on Jeffrey Merritt's layup with 13:19. Raijon Kelly, who finished with 11 points, had seven during the spurt.

Merritt had 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Jordan Loyd was the only double-figure scorer for Furman, with 15 points. The Paladins shot just 20.7 percent from 3-point range (6 of 29).
