Sacramento St. 70, Menlo 56

Walter Jackson scored 19 points and Sacramento State pulled away in the second half en route to a 70-56 season-opening victory over Menlo College.
Jackson hit a pair of free throws and scored on a dunk during a 6-0 run early in the second that put the Hornets ahead for good, 39-33. From there, Sacramento State built the lead to as many as 17 points when Dylan Garrity hit a pair of free throws with 3:06 remaining.
Joe Eberhard added 11 points for the Hornets, who shot 44 percent from the field.
Andrew Young had 16 points for Menlo (0-3), an NAIA school. Cyleb Burton added 12 points and Tim Tatum had 11 points and nine rebounds.
Neither team was a threat from 3-point range. Menlo attempted only four shots beyond the arc, hitting one, while the Hornets were 2 for 14.
