S. Dakota St. edges S. Dakota 70-68

VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) Jake Bittle had a crucial steal and then sank a pair of free throws with 5 seconds left as South Dakota State hung on for a 70-68 win over South Dakota on Saturday.

Leading 67-59 with just under 4 minutes to play, South Dakota State (12-10, 4-3 Summit League) had to hold off South Dakota down the stretch as its advantage shrunk to 68-66 with 1:10 to go.

Bittle turned it around on a steal with 6 seconds to go, and got a trip to the free throw line, where he hit both shots to pad the lead against South Dakota's final layup at the buzzer.

Brayden Carlson scored 22 points, Jordan Dykstra added 16 plus 11 rebounds, while Bittle and Marcus Heemstra had 10 each for the Jackrabbits.

Casey Kasperbauer led South Dakota (8-13, 3-4) with 17 points, Trevor Gruis had 16 and Trey Norris 14.
