Louie Krogman scored 23 points and Charlie Westbrook 21, and South Dakota held off a late surge by Chicago State to win 75-71 Thursday night.
Krogman made 5 of 10 3-pointers, though his teammates went only 4-for-21, as the Coyotes (12-11, 4-2 Great West) notched their first road victory.
Carl Montgomery had a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Cougars (6-19, 3-5), who have lost five of six. Jonathon Montgomery added 19 points, including 5 3-pointers, and Hajji Martin scored 11.
South Dakota pushed its lead to 64-52 on Mitchell Bouie's basket with 8:39 left.
Chicago State still trailed by eight with 2:22 to go, but Jonathon Montgomery and Martin hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut it to 73-71 with 1:11 left.
But the Cougars missed two shots in the final 15 seconds, and Trevor Gruis and Jake Thomas hit free throws for the Coyotes.
