S. Dakota 73, Chicago St. 70

Jake Thomas scored 20 points and Kendall Cutler added 16 points to lead South Dakota to a 73-70 overtime victory over Chicago State in the Great West tournament on Thursday night.

The Coyotes (17-14) will play Utah Valley, the host and No. 1 seed, in Friday's semifinals. The tournament champion does not receive an NCAA automatic bid.

Louie Krogman contributed 15 points for South Dakota. His basket with 2:20 remaining in overtime gave the Coyotes the lead for good at 71-69.

Jonathan Montgomery had 20 points for Chicago State (6-26). Carl Montgomery had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars, and Antonio Lofton had 14 points and 18 rebounds. Chicago State outrebounded South Dakota 52-35, but the Coyotes went 23 for 35 from the free-throw line while the Cougars were 9 for 18.
