The Syracuse University basketball program will be the focus of an NCAA hearing to be held at the end of October, sources told Syracuse.com

The hearing is the result of a multi-year inquiry into the school's athletic department, according to the article. By scheduling the hearing, the NCAA is signaling its investigation on the Orange athletics department is close to completion, and comes before any determination of whether or not the university had committed any infractions of NCAA policy.

Emily James, a spokesperson for the NCAA, said she couldn't comment on specific or possible cases, but when investigations necessitate hearings, they involve at least one Level I or Level II violation, Syracuse.com reported.

That means Syracuse faces accusations of a "severe" or "significant" breach of conduct.

It was unclear whether the investigation focused solely on the men's basketball team or included any other Syracuse athletic departments, Syracuse.com wrote.

Among those usually invited to hearings, James said, are school presidents, athletic directors, compliance officials, individuals named in allegations and lawyers for both the school and individuals.

When asked on Thursday whether he would be attending the hearing, Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim walked away from a reporter, Syracuse.com reported.
