A high school in Nebraska was mourning two basketball coaches, who died in a head-on collision with a pickup truck while driving their boys' team back from a hoops camp.
Eight boys from Broken Bow High School were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries following the crash on Highway 2, near Ansley, Neb., shortly before 4 p.m. local time Friday, the Omaha World-Herald reported.
Assistant coach Zane Harvey, 38, who was driving the team van, and head coach Anthony Blum, 24, his front seat passenger, were killed in the crash. The driver of the truck, 70-year-old Albert Sherbeck, also died in the collision.
Nebraska State Patrol Capt. Jim Parish said Sherbeck's eastbound pickup struck the westbound team van after crossing the center line.
Of the eight boys transported to local hospitals, at least two later were released. Among the six remaining, two were said to be in critical condition.
One team member who was originally believed to be traveling with the team was driven home by his parents.
