Radford's Greenberg suspended four games

Radford University men's basketball coach Brad Greenberg has been suspended for four games for NCAA violations tied to impermissible team travel and associated extra benefits for an ineligible player.
Athletics Director Robert Lineburg made the announcement Monday.
''My actions, which I know were in error, resulted in NCAA violations and I regret my decisions,'' Greenberg said in a statement. ''I apologize to the team, our administration and supporters of Radford University basketball.''
During Greenberg's suspension, assistant coach Rick Hall will serve as acting head coach with the help of assistants Rick Callahan and Cedric Smith. The suspension starts with Tuesday's game against Presbyterian.
''As an athletic department we strive for excellence in the classroom and in competition, as well as in the conduct of our programs,'' Lineburg said. ''Once we learned of the violations, we immediately contacted the Big South and NCAA offices and imposed what we believe are appropriate sanctions at this time. A thorough investigation of the violations is currently being conducted by the NCAA.''
The Highlanders are 5-20 overall and 2-13 in the Big South.
