Montrael Scott scored 18 points, Marcellus Jackson added 12 points and eight rebounds, and Prairie View A&M held off a furious Alcorn State comeback for a 55-47 win Thursday night.

Scott was 6 of 11 from the field and 5 of 7 from the line for the Panthers (5-10, 1-1 Southwestern), who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Xavian Rimmer led the Braves (2-11, 0-2) with 14 points, and Ken McDonald scored 10.

Prairie View rode a 20-2 first-half run to a 30-20 halftime advantage and stretched the lead to 42-23 on a Mayol Riathin jumper with 12:19 to play. Alcorn responded with its own 20-2 run over the next nine minutes, cutting the Panthers' lead to 44-43 on a Ken McDonald jumper with 3:04 left.

The Panthers then scored the next nine points, capped by a Jules Montgomery layup with 29 seconds left to put the game away.
