Pirates' Pope collapses, taken to hospital

Seton Hall forward Herb Pope has reportedly been taken to a hospital after collapsing during an afternoon workout at the school.
The Star-Ledger of Newark reported that Pope collapsed Wednesday and was rushed to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.
Sports information director Matt Sweeney told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Wednesday night "that a student-athlete was taken to a hospital.''
Citing privacy laws, Sweeney would not identify the athlete or comment on the person's condition.
Quoting two sources, the newspaper said that Pope was undergoing tests to determine what happened.
Pope announced he was entering the NBA draft. However, he did not hire an agent, leaving open the possibility he might return next season to play for new coach Kevin Willard.
Pope, who averaged 11.5 points and led the Big East by averaging 10.7 rebounds, has to withdraw his name from the draft by May 8 to return.
Pope's season ended horribly. He was ejected in Seton Hall's NIT loss to Texas Tech for punching Darko Cohadarevic below the waist twice. Pope maintained that the Red Raiders player elbowed him in the head before he retaliated.
The Aliquippa, Pa. native transferred to Seton Hall from New Mexico State. The 2009-10 season was his first with the Pirates.
Shortly after the season ended, Bobby Gonzalez was fired as Seton Hall's coach. Gonzalez has since sued the university, claiming he was fired without cause and is owed two years' salary under terms of his contract.
In the weeks after the firing, guard Jeremy Hazell, the Pirates' leading scorer with a 20.4 average, and forward Jeff Robinson (12.2 points) also declared for the NBA draft.
