Peters leads Valparaiso to 78-64 win over IPFW

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) Alec Peters scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Valparaiso rode hot shooting in the second half to take down IPFW 78-64 in the season opener for both teams Friday night.

After an average performance in the first 20 minutes, the Crusaders hit 13 of 24 attempts in the second half, including four of eight on 3-pointers. Keith Carter had 8 points, four assists and three steals in the second half.

David Skara and Shane Hammink combined for 24 of the Valpo bench's 32 points. Skara and Jubril Adekoya both grabbed seven rebounds.

IPFW made it a 4-point game with 4:11 remaining, but a layup and 3-pointer from Peters put Valparaiso back in control.

Mo Evans had 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting for the Mastodons. Max Landis added 14 points.
