Jeff Brooks scored 21 points and Taran Buie added 14 as Penn State used a hot start in the second half to pull away from Central Connecticut State 77-61 on Monday night.

Brooks, who set a career high in scoring for the second straight game, was a perfect 7 of 7 from the field and 6 of 6 from the foul line. Buie, a true freshman, also reached a career high.

The Nittany Lions (4-0) made their first 11 field-goal attempts of the second half, turning a 12-point halftime advantage into a 62-35 lead with 11:25 remaining.

Brooks' basket and free throw helped Penn State open up a 9-0 lead. He had 10 points in the first eight minutes. Buie had nine points during an 11-0 run that gave the Nittany Lions a 36-21 lead with 1:48 left in the first half. Penn State led 38-26 at halftime.

Markeys Weans led the Blue Devils (3-1) with 14 points.
