David Wood scored 14 points and Dante Valentine added 13 to lead Palm Beach Atlantic to a 61-55 win over Stetson on Friday night.
Palm Beach Atlantic, an NCAA Division II team, used a 16-4 run to take control 21-9 with 8:13 left in the first half and led the rest of the way. The Sailfish had never before beaten a Division I opponent.
Stetson (1-3) lost its third straight game following its season-opening upset at Wake Forest. Forward Ridge Graham led Stetson with 19 points and 11 rebounds and guard Tyshawn Patterson added 16 points.
The Hatters staged a furious second-half comeback, getting within a point at 51-50 on Jermol Paul's 3-pointer with 7:51 left and 54-53 on a free throw by Graham with 5:21 to play.
It was Stetson's first loss to a Division II opponent since an 81-79 loss to West Florida on Nov. 17, 1997.
