Chris Jones scored 17 points and Tony Mitchell added 14 points and 10 rebounds in his college debut Sunday as North Texas defeated Jackson State 69-55.

Jones was 5 for 6 on 3-point attempts while the highly-touted Mitchell also made his presence felt in 20 minutes off the bench. Mitchell originally signed with Missouri out of high school in 2010 but was ruled academically ineligible by the NCAA. He instead enrolled at North Texas, sat out the season and spent the summer playing for the U19 USA Basketball team in the FIBA World Championships, where he led the team in rebounding and blocked shots.

Jones and Jordan Williams hit 3-pointers during an early 10-4 run that put North Texas (5-5) ahead 20-12. Traditional three-point plays from Mitchell and Brandan Walton and another 3-pointer from Jones extended the lead to 33-17.

Jenirro Bush led Jackson State (2-10) with 20 points.
