Florida State made South Alabama pay the price for Stetson's long-range success.
The No. 25 Seminoles clamped down on South Alabama's outside shooters Sunday and cruised to an 80-39 win while holding the Jaguars without a 3-pointer (0 for 24).
''I love looking at the opponents at the end of a game and seeing them tired and frustrated,'' FSU's Terrance Shannon said. ''We try to frustrate our opponents by playing good team defense. We did a good job tonight.''
The Seminoles, the nation's top defensive team the past two seasons, weren't feeling that way after a victory last week in which they allowed Stetson to make 10 of 33 from behind the arc.
Florida State's defensive effort Sunday also carried over to the offensive end.
Luke Loucks scored 18 points - one shy of his career high - and Shannon had 13 of his 15 points in the first half.
Loucks, typically a pass-first point guard, had 11 of Florida State's first 20 points as the Seminoles took a 20-10 lead with 11:18 left in the first half.
''I could tell from the first few plays that their game plan was, `Don't help on him because he's going to pass,' " Loucks said. ''I don't feel like they were disrespecting me, but anytime their defense is geared toward my passing you got to be aggressive and make them pay.''
Florida State continued to pour it on, going on a 24-6 run over the final 8:47 of the half to grab a 51-23 halftime lead.
Deividas Dulkys added 12 points, three rebounds, three steals and two blocks for Florida State (4-0), which finished with 14 blocks.
The Seminoles have won four straight games to open a season for the fifth time in coach Leonard Hamilton's 10 years at Florida State.
Augustine Rubit scored 10 points on 4-of-16 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds for South Alabama (1-2), which went 16 for 68 (23.5 percent) from the floor.
''We've got three or four really good shooters,'' South Alabama coach Ronnie Arrow said. ''They were just null and void tonight.''
Antione Lundy had nine points and six rebounds for the Jaguars, who made 11 first-half turnovers and finished with 16.
The Seminoles didn't back off in the second half, outscoring the Jaguars 29-16.
Shannon shot 6 of 6 and Florida State hit 25 of 48 (52.1 percent) from the floor.
After recording back-to-back double-doubles, Bernard James had six points, eight rebounds and three blocks in 21 minutes for Florida State.
Florida State also shot 25 of 30 (83.3 percent) from the free-throw line.
Senior point guard Jeff Peterson did not play against South Alabama with a sprained knee. It's not known when he will be able to return.
Without Peterson, Florida State had 19 turnovers. But Loucks played more at the point guard spot and had just one turnover in 32 minutes.
''Luke had to step up tonight because we only had basically one point guard on the floor,'' Hamilton said. ''I thought he gave us good leadership, he has cut down on his turnovers. He was a little more aggressive tonight offensively because that team didn't give him much respect so they dropped off on him.''
Florida State next plays Massachusetts in the Battle 4 Atlantis on Thursday in The Bahamas.
South Alabama plays at LSU on Wednesday.
