Fred Hunter scored 27 points and had nine rebounds as Nicholls State overcame a slow start to cruise to an 89-67 win over Jarvis Christian College on Tuesday night.

Anatoly Bose added 25 points for the Colonels (6-4), who are above .500 through 10 games for only the second time in 16 years.

After the 1994-95 Colonels started 8-2, only the 2008-09 squad (6-4) also had a winning record after 10 games.

Jarvis Christian, an NAIA school counting the game as an exhibition, led for most of the first 10 minutes.

Jarvis Christian, which battled McNeese State to the wire in a 96-91 loss on Dec. 9, could get no closer than 14 points in the second half despite Rashard Norman scoring 17 of his 18 points.

Nicholls State outscored the Bulldogs 54-20 in the paint.
