Anthony James scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half as Northern Iowa defeated New Mexico 66-60 in the championship game of the Las Vegas Classic on Thursday night.
The Panthers (9-3) made five free throws in the final 55 seconds, the last two by James, who was fouled after thwarting a New Mexico scoring chance with a defensive rebound.
A.J. Hardeman had 16 points and Dairese Gary 14 for the Lobos (10-2), whose eight-game winning streak ended. Gary scored New Mexico's last eight points, helping cut the deficit to 61-60 with a minute left.
James scored the Panthers' first 12 points of the second half, helping extend a three-point lead to 46-37 cushion. He had two 3-pointers during the run.

Kendall Williams had 11 points for New Mexico.
