Morehead St. 77, LIU Brooklyn 74

Milton Chavis scored 24 points and Morehead State beat LIU-Brooklyn 77-74 on Friday night in the first college basketball game played in the new Barclays Center.
Bakari Turner made both ends of a 1-and-1 with 5.6 seconds left to end a 10-0 run by LIU-Brooklyn and give the Eagles the three-point lead. C.J. Garner's 3-point attempt at the buzzer bounced off the rim.
Devon Atkinson had 13 points for Morehead State (1-0) while Kahill Owens added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Jamal Olasewere had 26 points for the Blackbirds (0-1), who were playing about 10 blocks from their campus. Julian Boyd, the reigning Northeast Conference player of the year, had 19 points for LIU-Brooklyn but he left the game with 4:38 remaining with a cramp in his left leg and did not return.
Boyd missed a season with a heart condition and first-year coach Jack Perri said that because of the heart condition Boyd does not return to a game after cramping.
A drive by Atkinson with 2:44 to play gave the Eagles their biggest lead of the game, 75-64. Olasewere had seven of the 10 points in the Blackbirds' run that brought them within 75-74 with 6.3 seconds left.
Former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms, a Morehead State alum, was at the game.
