Kareem Jamar scored 17 points to lead Montana to a 75-64 victory over Portland State in a Big Sky Conference opener Wednesday night.

Art Steward and Will Cherry added 15 points apiece for the Grizzlies (8-5), who won third in a row.

Charles Odum scored 27 points, hitting 8 of 13 shots, but the Vikings (6-7) dropped their third straight. Renado Parker scored 16, and Chehales Tapscott grabbed 12 rebounds.

Montana's accuracy was the key. Though the Grizzlies took 14 fewer shots than the Vikings, they made two more. Montana shot 53 percent (25 of 47) as opposed to Portland State's 38 percent (23 of 61). Montana also went 9 of 13 from 3-point range.

The Grizzlies got off to a 13-3 lead and increased that to 43-24 at intermission.

They extended it to 23 and still led 67-49 with 3:14 left before the Vikings made a closing run.
