Will Cherry scored 17 points and Art Steward 16 to lead Montana to a 67-58 victory against Sacramento State on Saturday night.
Derek Selvig had 14 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks for the Grizzlies (19-6, 12-1 Big Sky), who won their eighth straight game and remained in a tie for first in the conference with Weber State, which defeated Eastern Washington on Saturday.
Joe Eberhard and Jackson Carbajal scored 11 points apiece for the Hornets (9-15, 4-9), who shot 32.8 percent (19 of 58) from the floor.
Montana won the rebounding battle 41-34 and outscored Sacramento State 26-14 in the paint.
A 22-5 run during a 6:57 second-half stretch gave the Grizzlies a 49-37 cushion.
The Hornets got within five points, but Cherry batted down that threat with two free-throws and a 3-pointer that put Montana up 54-44 with 4:07 remaining. Sacramento State got no closer than eight points the rest of the way.
