Gary Cox scored a career-high 23 points and Phil Wait had a career-high 16 rebounds to lead Monmouth (N.J.) to a 78-74 comeback win in double overtime against Hartford on Saturday.

Monmouth (4-5) trailed 15-0 with 7:35 left in the opening half and didn't score its first field goal until the 5:38 mark, giving Hartford a 20-5 lead.

Hartford (2-8) led 30-17 at halftime, but Monmouth tied the score at 44 on a 3-pointer from Cox with 8:28 left in regulation.

With Monmouth trailing 59-57 and 6 seconds left, Cox nailed two free throws to force the first overtime.

Both teams made two 3s and two free throws in the first overtime to force another extra frame with the score tied at 67.

Monmouth shot 5 of 6 from the free-throw line in the second overtime and led 78-71 before a 3 from Joe Zeglinski with 5 seconds left.

Zeglinski tied a career high with 31 points.
