Minnesota suspends three players for season after illicit video post

Two days after three University of Minnesota basketball players were benched for Sunday’s game against Illinois, they were suspended for the remainder of the season following a sexually explicit video appearing on freshman Kevin Dorsey’s social media accounts.
On Tuesday, coach Richard Pitino announced the suspensions of Dorsey, sophomore leading scorer Nate Mason and freshman Dupree McBrayer in a statement:
“After careful and continued consideration, I am suspending Kevin Dorsey, Nate Mason and Dupree McBrayer for the duration of the season. I believe this is the best thing for the basketball program as we strive to build a strong and respectful culture each and every day. We do our best to continue to consistently teach, educate and serve all of our student-athletes. It’s a privilege to be a member of the University of Minnesota basketball program – something as a coaching staff we do not take lightly and that we stress daily to our student-athletes. In this instance, these student-athletes failed to meet the standards we have set. “
According to the Associated Press, the clip was posted Friday on Dorsey's Instagram and Twitter feeds, both of which were disabled about a half-hour later.
The Gophers are in the midst of a disappointing 8-20 season in Pitino’s third year as coach of the team. He was 43-28 at Minnesota heading into this season.
