Sean Miller is staying at Arizona.
Miller told FOXSports.com he has decided to remain in Tucson, just hours after meeting with Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson in Las Vegas.
Miller, 42, was thought to be leaning towards going to Maryland, a job he had also held in high regard, but a strong relationship with Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne and success in recruiting were critical in remaining in Tucson.
"The support we've had as a program at Arizona is unprecedented," Miller said late Saturday night. "It's a place that's very, very difficult to leave. I'm an honored and elated to be the coach here and happy to be here for a long, long time."
Despite the loss of star Derrick Williams to the NBA, Arizona will still be able to compete for the Pac-10 title this season due to a recruiting class loaded with elite talent, including guards Josiah Turner and Nick Johnson.
Miller also has a pair of top 100 frontcourt guys — Angelo Chol and Sidiki Johnson — coming in this season and already has a commitment from one of the top big men in the Class of 2012 — Grant Jarrett — in the Class of 2012.
Miller and his staff are also involved with fellow 2012 frontcourt player Brandon Ashley and hosted one of the elite players in the Class of 2013 — Chris Thomas — on an unofficial visit earlier this weekend.
At Maryland, it would have been somewhat of a rebuilding process. The Terps didn't make the NCAA tournament last season and lost their best player — sophomore big man Jordan Williams — to the NBA.
