Michigan State recruiting added another prospect to its 2017 class in four-star power forward Xavier Tillman.

One of the top prospects in the state of Michigan for 2017, Xavier Tillman, has committed to Tom Izzo’s Michigan State recruiting class. He joins five-star Jaren Jackson Jr. as the only prospect verbally committed for 2017 but the class is expected to grow even more in the near future.

Tillman took his official visit to Michigan State last week and called it ‘amazing’ and stated how he built a solid relationship with Izzo, Kenny Goins and Tum Tum Nairn. That family-like atmosphere and the chance to follow his dream was enough for the Spartans to land him.

Despite the fact that Jackson Jr., also a forward, committed a couple of weeks ago, Tillman stated that it wouldn’t affect his decision. The two play similar positions, but Jackson Jr. is more of a stretch four who can play around the perimeter, if need be.

Michigan State is running low on post players so this commitment was huge for the Spartans. In fact, Ben Carter and Gavin Schilling are both graduating this year, leaving Goins, Nick Ward, potentially Miles Bridges, Jackson Jr. and Tillman in the post for 2017-18.

However, Michigan State seems to also like its chances with Brandon McCoy and Jacob Epperson so the post play in this class might be the best in the nation.

You have to believe that playing time was a big pull factor for the Spartans as they’ll need all the post help they can get next season.
