Miami Hurricanes basketball player DeQuan Jones will sit out the season while the NCAA investigates allegations he was recruited with the help of $10,000 cash from a booster.

The school issued a two-sentence release Thursday saying Jones won't play this season and will continue to ''cooperate fully'' with the NCAA. The Hurricanes and new coach Jim Larranaga play their opener Friday at home against Tennessee Tech.

Jones, a senior, was implicated in a scandal that became public in August. While most of the allegations involved the football program, Yahoo Sports reported that an ex-booster said he provided cash to Miami basketball coaches to help recruit Jones.

The 6-foot-7 guard-forward averaged 4.5 points and 2.5 rebounds last season as a part-time starter.
