Mercer defeats Piedmont 88-48

MACON, Ga. (AP) Ike Nwamu had 22 points on 7-for-12 shooting to lead Mercer to an 88-48 win over Piedmont to open the season on Friday night.

Phillip Leonard had 10 points, five rebounds and seven assists on 5-of-8 shooting, T.J. Hallice finished with seven points and eight rebounds and Jordan Strawberry added 11 points off the bench for Mercer. Nine of Strawberry's points came in the second half.

Peyton Luken made four 3-pointers and had 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting to lead Piedmont. Chase England added eight points on 2-of-3 shooting from behind the arc for the Lions.

The game was tied 12-12 early in the first half until Mercer went on a 21-2 run, capped by a 3-pointer by Nwamu near the end of the first.
