Md-Eastern Shore takes out Mount St. Mary's 53-41

EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) Devon Walker scored 14 points to lead Maryland-Eastern Shore to a 53-41 win over in-state Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday night.

Walker, Devin Martin and Ryan Andino hit two 3-pointers apiece for UMES (1-2) and combined for 27 points. The Hawks made 18 of 44 shots (40.9 percent), including 7 for 17 from 3-point range.

It was the first win at UMES for coach Bobby Collins.

Byron Ashe led Mount St. Mary's with nine points and Junior Robinson added eight. The Mountaineers were held to 29.8 percent shooting (14 of 47) and were outrebounded 38-26.

UMES led 26-11 at halftime, but Mount St. Mary's opened the second half on an 8-2 run to pull within 28-19. Walker responded by scoring his teams' next 10 points for a 36-25 lead.

UMES lost to No. 12 Villanova 81-44 in its previous game and will travel to No. 15 VCU Thursday.
