Xfinity Center was the site of a similar storyline on a late Saturday evening, as the Maryland Terrapins edged out the Oklahoma State Cowboys 71-70.

A 9 p.m. start presented a crowd of 17,391 that arrived on time, and had quite the show to watch.

Maryland basketball has become fond of trailing and fighting back, and Oklahoma State gave them nothing less.

The Cowboys started by forcing countless turnovers, and shooting 50 percent in the first four minutes to jump out to an 8-5 lead. This lead only continued to grow, as the Pokes out-rebounded the Terrapins just like almost every other team this year.

By halftime, Maryland had just 18 rebounds to Oklahoma State’s 27 boards in just 20 minutes.

However, the second half has become Maryland’s stomping ground as they uses multiple runs to help secure the victory.

Coach Mark Turgeon pointed out that Maryland’s most significant run came with Melo Trimble on the bench. This run spanned 4:22, and was the 12-0 run that brought the two teams even at 60 with just under seven minutes to play.

Both teams would go neck and neck down the stretch, trading baskets and foul shots, leading to the final minute.

Trimble can be tabbed the hero as he hit two free throws with 9.4 seconds remaining that gave Maryland the 71-70 lead the would preserve to win. Officials went to the table to review a buzzer beating attempt, but waved the Cowboys’ shot off.

His counterpart, Jaylen Brantley, was an unsuspecting force off the bench for Maryland. He finished with 12 points, including a number of hard finishes at the rim.

Brantley and company separated themselves by getting to the free throw line.

Maryland shot 29 free throws compared to Oklahoma State with just 11. Shooting 65.5percent from the line is very uncharacteristic of the Terrapins, who Turgeon said “worked really hard for this game.”

With a record of 8-1, Maryland looks to strengthen their eye test to AP voters as they close out non-conference play. The Terrapins’ next home game is December 9th against Howard University at 9 p.m.
