Louisville rolls past Kentucky Wesleyan 96-54

Mike Marra scored 22 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead Louisville to an easy 96-54 exhibition victory over Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday night.
Peyton Siva added 18 points and Terrence Jennings scored 15 for the Cardinals, who shot 49 percent from the floor.
Chris Williams led Kentucky Wesleyan with 12 points, but the Panthers struggled to keep up with the Cardinals, who forced 25 turnovers and held Kentucky Wesleyan to 38 percent shooting.
Louisville coach Rick Pitino has pledged his undersized, inexperienced team will play an uptempo style designed to wear teams down, and the Cardinals looked crisp at times while pushing the pace at every opportunity.
''We got better the second time out,'' Pitino said. ''We still have a long way to go but we're still making strides.''
Pitino called Marra the best high school shooter he'd ever seen when he signed, but Marra struggled with his stroke last year, making just 29 percent of his 3-pointers.
The sophomore made six of eight 3-pointers against the Panthers, most of them fluid jumpers from well behind the line in the rhythm of the offense.
Pitino experimented with his lineup, starting sophomore forward Stephan Van Treese and freshman center Gorgui Dieng in place of regulars Rakeem Buckles and Terrence Jennings.
Most of the combinations worked. Van Treese had nine points and eight rebounds in 19 energetic minutes while Jennings had 15 points, including three emphatic dunks.
''They're doing a really good job of sharing the basketball,'' Pitino said. ''The passing is improving.''
The Cardinals open the regular season Tuesday against No. 17 Butler.
Louisville also announced the signing of 6-foot-7 forward Angel Nunez from Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Mass. He'll join Chane Behanan, Wayne Blackshear and Zach Price, all of whom signed with the Cardinals on Wednesday.
