Julian Boyd scored 18 points and Jamal Olasewere had 17 points and 14 rebounds as Long Island University defeated Lafayette 82-80 Monday night for its third consecutive victory.

Boyd got 16 of his points in the second half, including three baskets in a span of 53 seconds that gave the Blackbirds (5-4) a 46-44 lead.

Long Island widened its lead to 77-66 with 3:36 remaining, but the Leopards (3-5), who lost their third in a row, cut it to 78-74 at the 1:58 mark on a 3-pointer by Nick Petkovich.

A steal by Olasewere and his subsequent layup pushed the Blackbirds' lead to 80-74 with 38 seconds left.

Petkovich and Seth Hinrichs hit 3-pointers to keep the pressure on, but Jason Brickman twice made 1 of 2 free throws for Long Island.

Ryan Willen scored 21 points for Lafayette and Petkovich had 19, including 6-for-8 shooting on 3-pointers.
