Lipscomb staves off South Carolina Upstate 60-58

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Josh Williams scored 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Lipscomb to a 60-58 victory over South Carolina Upstate on Tuesday night.

Trailing 51-50 with 6:08 to play, Lipscomb's Malcolm Smith hit a jumper that sparked a 7-0 run giving the Bisons a 57-51 lead.

USC Upstate had two final opportunities to steal the win, but Ty Greene missed a jumper with 17 seconds left and Jacob Schulte turned over his subsequent offensive rebound.

Nathan Moran made 1 of 2 free throws to seal the victory for Lipscomb (8-9, 2-0 Atlantic Sun), who have now won three straight.

Smith and Talbott Denny each finished with eight points for the Bisons.

Michael Buchanan led the Spartans (13-5, 1-1) with 13 points. Fred Miller added 12 points and six rebounds as USC Upstate had its five game winning streak snapped.
