Liberty 70, Presbyterian 61

John Brown scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to help Liberty get past Presbyterian 70-61 on Thursday night in the Big South opener for both teams.
The Flames (5-4) trailed 31-27 at halftime after shooting 10 of 33 from the floor (30.3 percent) in the opening half. Presbyterian hit 15 of its 27 shots (55.6 percent) before the break and scored 24 points in the paint compared to just 12 for Liberty.
The Blue Hose (2-5) still led 42-33 with 15:18 left in the game, but an 11-2 run that was capped by Evan Gordon's jumper with 11:04 left, tied the score at 44.
Liberty shot 16 of 28 from the field (57.1 percent) in the second half and flipped the scoring advantage inside, outscoring Presbyterian 22-8 in the paint.
Jesse Sanders added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Flames.
Jake Troyli led the Blue Hose with 17 points and Khalid Mutakabbir had 16.
