Liberty 67, Chicago St. 65

John Brown hit a pair of free throws in the closing seconds of overtime Saturday to lift Liberty to a 67-65 victory over Chicago State in the South Padre Island Invitational.
Brown hit a free throw with 4 seconds left to break a 65-65 tie, then missed the second attempt and was fouled again on the rebound. He was 1 for 2 on the ensuing free-throw attempts with 1 second left to provide the final margin of victory.
Brown finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds for the Flames (4-4). Antwan Burrus and David Minaya added 14 points each, and Evan Gordon had 13.
Carl Montgomery led Chicago State (2-5) with 21 points and nine rebounds. Antonio Lofton added 15 points, including a layup with 4 seconds left in regulation that sent the game into overtime.
The Cougars took advantage of 20 turnovers by the Flames, but shot just 33 percent from the field, including 2 for 20 on 3-point attempts.
