Garrison Johnson hit seven 3-pointers and scored 27 points as Jackson State defeated Texas Southern 70-67 in overtime Monday night.
Tyrone Hanson added 18 points for Jackson State (14-11, 12-1 Southwestern Athletic), which has won eight straight and 14 of 15.
Junior Treasure led Texas Southern (12-12, 8-4) with 23 points before fouling out early in overtime.
There were four lead changes and two ties in OT before Jackson State scored five straight points on a 3 by Johnson and a layup by Hanson to take a 65-61 lead with 59 seconds left. A layup by Deandre Hall pulled Texas Southern to within 69-67 with 4 seconds left, but it didn't get off another shot.
After Johnson's fifth 3 gave Jackson State a one-point lead with 23 seconds remaining in regulation, Marc Ellis hit 1-of-2 free throws with 8 seconds remaining to tie the score at 53, leading to overtime.
