Iowa 70, Idaho St. 53

Bryce Cartwright scored 15 points and Matt Gatens added 14 to lead Iowa past Idaho State, 70-53, Saturday in a men's college basketball game.
Broderick Gilchrest led Idaho State (2-4) with 14 points.
Iowa (4-4) led by 18 at halftime, but was outscored 27-14 over the first 11 minutes of the second half. Idaho State made 11 of 12 free throws during the run. Mike Lacey's pair of free throws with 9:09 left cut Iowa's lead to 51-46.
Idaho State's cause suffered a blow when guard Kenny McGowen, who had 10 points, was toppled over a row of chairs in the seating area after making a 3-pointer with 17 minutes left in the game. McGowen appeared to strike his head. He walked to the bench, but did not play the rest of the game.
Idaho State was held scoreless over the final 4:48 and Iowa went on a 10-0 run to put away the game.
Iowa ran out to a 17-2 lead to start the game. The Hawkeyes led by as many as 26 points before Gilchrest made a pair of 3-pointers to close the margin to 37-19 by halftime.
Iowa had 24 rebounds in the first half, 10 on offense. Idaho State had 10 rebounds total.
Iowa's next game is Tuesday against Northern Iowa. Idaho State plays Tuesday at Cal State Bakersfield.
