Freshman Zach McCabe scored 12 points and Iowa beat Louisiana-Monroe 68-40 Tuesday night to give coach Fran McCaffery his first win with the Hawkeyes.

Fellow freshman Melsahn Basabe had seven points, 11 rebounds and three blocks for Iowa (1-1), which bounced back from a season-opening loss to South Dakota State by dominating the Warhawks.

The Hawkeyes led by 11 at halftime and quickly stretched their edge to 45-24 on Devyn Marble's layup with 12 minutes left.

Iowa outscored ULM 39-22 in the second half to turn a relatively close game into a rout.

Tommie Sykes had 14 points for ULM (0-2), which fell to 1-9 against Big Ten opponents.
