Iona's offense too much for Monmouth, 89-71

WEST LONG BEACH, N.J. (AP) Sean Armand scored 22 points and David Laury added 21 as Iona's high-powered offense fueled an 89-71 victory over Monmouth on Tuesday.

Iona ranks 12th in the nation in points per game (83.2) and has now scored over 80 points 14 times this season.

Isaiah Williams added 17 points and seven rebounds for Iona (13-8, 10-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Armand made 8 of 10 shots, including 6 of 8 from 3-point range, and Laury made nine of his 10 field goals and grabbed 12 rebounds in 37 minutes for the Gaels. A.J. English had 14 points, but was just 1 of 10 from 3-point range.

Andrew Nicholas paced Monmouth (10-13, 4-8) with 15 points and Deon Jones had 14 and nine rebounds. The Hawks shot just 36.5 percent after making 27 of their 74 shot attempts.

It was the first meeting between the two schools since Jan. 5, 1985.
