Iona edges St Peter's 62-59 on English's 3-pointer

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) A.J. English drilled a game-winning 3-pointer with 0.7 seconds left to lift Iona over St. Peter's 62-59 on Wednesday night.
The Gaels led by eight after a Mike Poole 3-pointer, but St. Peter's responded with six straight points as a Chris Burke steal led to a Marvin Dominique layup with 35 seconds left.
After two free throws by English, Trevis Wyche hit a layup. Jamel Fields then stole the ball and sank a layup to tie it at 59 with 4 seconds left, setting up English's game-winner.
Iona (16-8, 13-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) shot 38.8 percent from the field, but hit nine 3-pointers and had a 13-1 advantage in second-chance points. Laury had 16 points with eight boards and Poole contributed 13 points.
The Peacocks (9-15, 5-10) shot 49 percent and outscored Iona 34-14 in the paint. Desi Washington scored 18 points, Burke had 14 and Dominique added 13.
