Illinois-Chicago tops St. Xavier 87-76

CHICAGO (AP) Jake Wiegand scored 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor and grabbed 12 rebounds Tuesday night to lead the University of Illinois-Chicago over St. Xavier 87-76 in a Men Against Breast Cancer Classic game.

Jay Harris added 16 points, and Tai Odiase had 11 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for the Flames (2-4).

Larry Motuzis led St. Xavier, a NAIA member, with 15 points, Jack Krieger had 13, Stanley Moore 11, and Tony Core 10.

UIC opened with an 11-4 run capped by a 3-pointer by Harris and used an 8-3 run to pull ahead and led 48-34 at halftime. The Flames opened the second half with an 8-2 run in which Wiegand made back-to-back buckets and led by as many as 21 points.

Wiegand was named to the all-tournament team at the conclusion of Sunday's play. He averaged 13.7 points and shot 53.3 percent from the field during the weekend's three games
