Buffalo head coach Bobby Hurley has emerged as a serious candidate to fill the head-coaching vacancy at Arizona State, according to multiple reports Wednesday.

Sources told CBS Sports that Hurley is the "frontrunner" for the job and that a deal might already be in place.

Hurley, a former star point guard at Duke, is 42-20 in his two years at Buffalo and led the Bulls to the NCAA tournament this year.

Former Duke star and current Blue Devils associate head coach Jeff Capel reportedly had passed on an offer earlier this week from Arizona State, which fired Herb Sendek after nine seasons.

In March, the Associated Press reported Hurley had agreed to a new contract with Buffalo that would make him the Mid-American Conference's highest paid men's basketball coach.

Buffalo (23-10) was eliminated with a 68-62 loss to West Virginia in the round of 64 of the NCAA tournament, despite being a popular upset pick. With a 42-20 record, Hurley became Buffalo's first coach to reach 40 wins in two seasons.
