Hoosiers lose Davis for season with torn Achilles tendon

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 12:30 p.m. ET

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) Indiana center De'Ron Davis will miss the rest of the season after having surgery for a torn Achilles tendon.

Coach Archie Miller said Davis injured his lower right leg during a non-contact drill in Thursday's practice.

The 6-foot-10 sophomore had started each of the Hoosiers' first 15 games. He was averaging 9.6 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 61.5 percent from the field, second in the Big Ten.

Davis, who is from Colorado, lost 20 pounds during the offseason so he could be in better shape this season.

Indiana (10-7, 3-2 Big Ten) has won two straight since losing Davis. Without him, 6-8 forward Juwan Morgan has been asked to do more work in the post.
